    Com o crescimento populacional e o consumo exacerbado, os recursos naturais são constantementeexplorados. As matas ciliares podem ser consideradas um dos recursos mais ameaçado e sujeito adegradação. No intuito de monitorar os problemas ambientais, os SIGs, aliados as técnicas degeoprocessamento, apresentam grande potencialidade. Estes permitem o acúmulo e manipulação degrande número de informações, bem como a representação cartográfica dessas variáveis, tornando-seessa técnica um excelente meio para analise do uso e ocupação das terras, no caso, nas Áreas dePreservação Permanente. O objetivo foi realizar o mapeamento das APPs da microbacia do RibeirãoBonito, e identificar os diferentes usos e ocupações nestas áreas. Através das técnicas degeoprocessamento os usos da terra, foram delimitados e mapeados. Foram utilizadas as imagens desatélite ALOS do sensor PRISM (2,5 m de resolução), cartas topográficas na escala de 1: 50.000. Parao processamento das imagens, foram utilizados os SIGs ArcGIS 9.3.1 e Idrisi Taiga. O produto finalresultou em mapas de uso da terra em APP, e de uso adequado e inadequado das terras, revelando opredomínio de condições adequadas de uso, porém com a presença de impactos ambientais, comoerosões e assoreamento dos rios e nascentes

    El estudio tiene como propósito analizar la estructura institucional de la oferta del Posgrado en la Región Centro Occidente, con la finalidad de identificar fortalezas y debilidades y con ello proponer políticas públicas para el impulso de la calidad de los estudios de posgrado en México. Con base en la información nacional se elaboraron seis diagnósticos regionales y un diagnóstico nacional del posgrado. En este volumen se presentan los resultados de la Región Centro Occidente que incluye los estados Jalisco, Colima, Guanajuato, Nayarit, Michoacán y Aguascalientes. Se analizan las características de las Instituciones de Educación Superior que impactan en los posgrados que imparten, tales como origen de financiamiento, grado de desarrollo de su normativa, así como las formas de evaluación, entre otras. Se revisan las características académicas, administrativas y financieras de los programas de posgrado como niveles, orientación, modalidades, formación de competencias. Se da cuenta de las características de los actores del posgrado: estudiantes, coordinadores, egresados. Se presentan las relaciones de los posgrados con el entorno y se ofrece una sistematización y análisis cualitativo respecto a lo que los coordinadores identifican como problemas y perspectivas a futuro y estrategias de fortalecimiento del posgrado.Consejo Mexicano de Estudios de PosgradoConsejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnologí

    Structural basis for both pro- and anti-inflammatory response induced by mannose-specific legume lectin from Cymbosema roseum

    Legume lectins, despite high sequence homology, express diverse biological activities that vary in potency and efficacy. In studies reported here, the mannose-specific lectin from Cymbosema roseum (CRLI), which binds N-glycoproteins, shows both pro-inflammatory effects when administered by local injection and anti-inflammatory effects when by systemic injection. Protein sequencing was obtained by Tandem Mass Spectrometry and the crystal structure was solved by X-ray crystallography using a Synchrotron radiation source. Molecular replacement and refinement were performed using CCP4 and the carbohydrate binding properties were described by affinity assays and computational docking. Biological assays were performed in order to evaluate the lectin edematogenic activity. The crystal structure of CRLI was established to a 1.8 Å resolution in order to determine a structural basis for these differing activities. The structure of CRLI is closely homologous to those of other legume lectins at the monomer level and assembles into tetramers as do many of its homologues. The CRLI carbohydrate binding site was predicted by docking with a specific inhibitory trisaccharide. CRLI possesses a hydrophobic pocket for the binding of α-aminobutyric acid and that pocket is occupied in this structure as are the binding sites for calcium and manganese cations characteristic of legume lectins. CRLI route-dependent effects for acute inflammation are related to its carbohydrate binding domain (due to inhibition caused by the presence of α-methyl-mannoside), and are based on comparative analysis with ConA crystal structure. This may be due to carbohydrate binding site design, which differs at Tyr12 and Glu205 position. © 2011 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved

    El mundo vive un cambio de época caracterizado por una crisis civilizatoria que afecta a la mayoría de las instituciones. La universidad no es ajena a este fenómeno. Cada vez más voces coinciden en que la educación convencional ha perdido aliento y vivacidad, por lo que se vuelve obligatorio replantear el quehacer educativo y reconfigurar sus propósitos. Esta obra promueve e impulsa maneras distintas de entender e implementar la universidad del siglo XXI. Encabezados por el gran pensador Edgar Morin, sus autores trazan el reto de generar una metamorfosis de la educación superior desde esquemas de complejidad y, para ello, ofrecen un conjunto de propuestas y experiencias sobre los caminos posibles para transformar las tareas universitarias.     A novel vasorelaxant lectin purified from seeds of Clathrotropis nitida: Partial characterization and immobilization in chitosan beads

    A novel lectin from seeds of Clathrotropis nitida (CNA) was purified and characterized. CNA is a glycoprotein containing approximately 3.3% carbohydrates in its structure. CNA promoted intense agglutination of rabbit erythrocytes, which was inhibited by galactosides and porcine stomach mucin (PSM). The lectin maintained its hemagglutinating activity after incubation in a wide range of temperatures (30-60 °C) and pH (6.0-7.0), and its binding activity was dependent on divalent cations (Ca+2 and Mg+2). SDS-PAGE showed an electrophoretic profile consisting of a single band of 28 kDa, as confirmed by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, which indicated an average molecular mass of 27,406 ± 2 Da and the possible presence of isoforms and glycoforms. In addition, CNA exhibited no toxicity to Artemia sp. nauplii and elicited reversible and dose-dependent vasorelaxation in precontracted aortic rings. CNA was successfully immobilized on chitosan beads and was able to capture PSM in solution. This study demonstrated that CNA is a lectin that has potential as a biotechnological tool in glycomics and glycoproteomics applications. © 2015 Elsevier Inc

    Kwapa: Gente del río. Estrategias transmedia de impacto social

    En este reporte se encuentra toda la documentación del trabajo realizado durante el período de otoño 2022 dentro del proyecto de aplicación profesional Alter Código en el cual se siguió trabajando en la realización del videojuego “A orillas del río” y en la producción del documental de etnoficción “Déjennos pescar”. En el documental etnoficción se tuvo como objetivo principal el rodaje en comunidades cucapá en Baja California, a partir de esto se implementaron diversas estrategias para lograrlo. Como resultado de lo anterior, se abrió un crowdfunding junto con una estrategia de difusión en redes sociales que incluyó, además, la participación en el festival universitario y la producción de stickers para lograr mayor impacto. En el videojuego el objetivo principal consistió en desarrollar una demo jugable cuyo resultado deja definida una dirección concreta para continuar a futuro. Además, permite mostrar las herramientas que se van a implementar como tomar objetos, seleccionar, agarrar e interactuar entre personajes y el entorno. En términos de colaboración se creó un cuadernillo ilustrado para mostrar a niños y adolescentes cucapá y, de este modo, sentar las bases de retroalimentación respecto al desarrollo de la historia y diseño de personajes. Por último, el viaje de producción proveyó de material para seguir desarrollando eldocumental, al mismo tiempo que permitió al equipo de videojuego sentar las bases de una retroalimentación con base en una metodología, desde la perspectiva emic, en la que nuestros colaboradores son co-productores del sentido.ITESO, A.C

    Genome sequencing reveals Zika virus diversity and spread in the Americas

    Although the recent Zika virus (ZIKV) epidemic in the Americas and its link to birth defects have attracted a great deal of attention, much remains unknown about ZIKV disease epidemiology and ZIKV evolution, in part owing to a lack of genomic data. Here we address this gap in knowledge by using multiple sequencing approaches to generate 110 ZIKV genomes from clinical and mosquito samples from 10 countries and territories, greatly expanding the observed viral genetic diversity from this outbreak. We analysed the timing and patterns of introductions into distinct geographic regions; our phylogenetic evidence suggests rapid expansion of the outbreak in Brazil and multiple introductions of outbreak strains into Puerto Rico, Honduras, Colombia, other Caribbean islands, and the continental United States. We find that ZIKV circulated undetected in multiple regions for many months before the first locally transmitted cases were confirmed, highlighting the importance of surveillance of viral infections. We identify mutations with possible functional implications for ZIKV biology and pathogenesis, as well as those that might be relevant to the effectiveness of diagnostic tests

    ROVE: Robotics Mining Platform

    Our project focused on improving upon the current robot design for the upcoming 2019 competition while adhering to the new rules of NASA's Robotic Mining Competition. After analyzing the robot, we found that the previous manufacturing of the digging scoops, selection of gearbox, and dated electronic hardware all contribute towards negatively impacting the robot's efficiency. Possible solutions were to manufacture chain guides and altering the scoop fastening design to resolve the digging ineffectiveness. To achieve full autonomy, we swapped out the previous complex control system to a more integrated and unified hardware. Together with camera vision and sensors, our robot can operate autonomously and be ready to compete in the 2019 Robotic Mining Competition

    Assessing Micro-Hydropower in Himachal Pradesh

    Himachal Pradesh is the largest producer of hydroelectricity in India, and boasts a 99.8% rural electrification rate. However, micro-hydropower is electrical power with off-grid applications that does not cause the negative impacts of large-scale projects. Our team researched the viability of using micro-hydro turbines to power individual households. We conducted interviews with 39 people across eight locations to understand the electrical needs of the community as wells as opinions on micro-hydro projects. We then constructed a micro-turbine prototype and tested it at a local river site. Finally, we made several recommendations for improvements to our prototype as well as continued research on the feasibility of micro-hydro technologies
